History
WHWH
AM first signed on the air on September 7, 1963 in
Princeton , New Jersey . Herbert W. Hobler, a Princeton
resident, Princeton University graduate and advertising
executive originated the idea of a Princeton radio
station to serve the local community with local news,
information and music.
In 1974, Mr. Hobler purchased an FM radio station,
WTOA, which had been on the air since 1947, from the
Trenton Times and changed the call letters to WPST.
It was not until a few years later that WPST jumped
on the rock 'n roll bandwagon by broadcasting 50,000
watts of Top 40 music from a brand new 500-foot tower.
In 1986, Louis F. Mercatanti, Jr., a local entrepreneur,
purchased both stations and through continuing Mr.
Hobler’s dedication to the local communities
Nassau serves, Mr. Mercatanti continued to grow Nassau
into a widely known and respected regional broadcaster.
In 2004, Nassau expanded significantly to become one
of the largest radio broadcasters in New England. Through
a series of eight separate station group acquisitions,
Nassau now operates across multiple markets in Northern
New England and the Mid-Atlantic regions.
Through a combination of factors including high quality
programming, station clustering, creating brand awareness,
and providing both technical and financial expertise,
Nassau has been highly successful in integrating its
acquisitions, creating leading radio stations and generating
industry leading financial performance.
